I’m thrilled to organize the seminar: Stakes of the metaverse on artistic creation with Gaetan Henry hosted at the international Art Exhibition Recto VRso, Laval Virtual Europe.
The metaverse is presented as parallel and collaborative New Digital World, where virtual/augmented realities and digital objects (iot or robots…) would converge. This persistent environment appears to offer endless opportunities for creation. But the current development of its foundations, based in particular on questions of virtual identity and avatar, or transactions secured by the blockchain, seems incompatible with the utopian exploration of new spaces of creative freedom and with the questions of free will or neutrality. As artists, what alternatives can we imagine?
Le metavers nous promet l’avènement d’un Nouveau Monde numérique parallèle et collaboratif, où se mêleraient réalités virtuelle, augmentée et les objets numériques (iot ou robots). Il apparait comme un espace toujours actif, offrant ainsi des opportunités infinies de création. Mais l’élaboration actuelle de ses fondations, basées notamment sur des questions d’identité virtuelle et d’avatar, ou de transactions sécurisées par la blockchain, semble incompatible avec l’exploration utopique de nouveaux espaces de liberté créative et avec les questions du libre arbitre ou de la neutralité. En tant qu’artistes, quelles alternatives pouvons-nous imaginer?
